Mulberries + Super Easy Cobbler recipe:

My Mulberry tree is loaded with berries this year thanks to the recent rains.  IMO using fresh grown or wild picked fruit in a recipe is the very definition of frugal living!  It's not just all about clipping coupons to save money!  If you plant a garden, fruit trees, fruit bearing vines, or herb plots, you will have FREE fruits & veggies whenever they are in season.  Not only that, but you will more than likely be able to share with your friends & family from the extras that the plants produce.  In my case, I also can (preserve) fruits & veggies to use throughout the year.  I will be glad to teach anyone who is interested in learning how to do it!  If you aren't lucky enough to live in an area where you can grow things on your own property or you rent or live in an apartment, there are container gardens that you can grow that will produce plenty for a season.  I know lots of people who beg for someone to come & pick fruit/veggies on their property also.  On my property alone we have 3 pear trees, 2 mulberry trees, wild mustang grape vines, dewberry vines galore, and my neighbor has a grapefruit tree we pick from.  All year long these fruits produce plenty & we are always asking people to come pick.  If you know people who have fruit trees, ask them about picking from the fruit in season, I would be willing to bet they would be happy to have you use it!!

Karen's Super Easy Cobbler:

You can use this recipe for any type of berry...Mulberry, dewberry, strawberry, blueberry or you can substitute a large can of peaches in heavy syrup for the berry/sugar mixture.

4-6 C Berries
2 C Sugar -divided
1 stick Oleo
3/4 C milk
1 C flour
3 t baking powder

Heat oven to 400 degrees.  Put fresh berries in a bowl, add one cup of the sugar, stir well & let sit.  Melt oleo in a large baking dish (I do this in the microwave).  Mix remaining sugar, flour, milk & baking powder in a mixing bowl, stirring until smooth (you can just use a spoon).  Pour over melted oleo in baking dish, DO NOT STIR, add sugared berries to baking dish, the dough will rise to the top as it bakes.  Bake 30-40 minutes until browned on top.  You can sprinkle sugar or cinnamon (for peach) on top after removing from the oven.
