Go HERE to print a $3/2 Ball or Kerr canning jars coupon. These can be kind of expensive, but once you make the investment in nice canning jars, you can re-use them every season, you just have to buy new lids.
Oh no, and Apple Butter is HARD to do!! I did it once also (and then promptly swore I would never do it again), 4 hours of constant stirring over a huge pot of boiling apple mash is not my idea of fun!! But, if it molded, then the problem was it wasn't sealed well. You may have needed to leave it in the water bath for a little longer. If people are interested in learning, I would be more than glad to post about making jelly. My grapes are starting to ripen, so I will be making jelly within about a week.
Yes, I figured out later I 'canned' it wrong. I tried it 2 years in a row and haven't since. I just LOVE apple butter but it was a real pain to make. I could go for some jelly if you have to time to post about it!
....did you say you GROW grapes? With 5 kids?? omg, write a post telling the rest of us how to keep the house clean and the kids happy :)
Ha, Ha, Ha!! I wish I had a secret to keeping the house clean or keeping kids happy!! And the grapes, they just grow themselves! They are wild "Mustang" grapes that grow in our pasture. We have TONS, if anyone is interested in picking them, they are available now & starting to ripen, so lmk & you can come pick them.
You need to teach us how to can... I did apple butter and it molded :(
